Three Rangers Who Need to Step it Up
After winning the World Series in 2023, the Rangers have performed below expectations in each of the past two seasons. With the American League West struggling historically this season, they may have a chance to make it back to the playoffs, but in order to do so, they need three key pieces to get their seasons back on track.
Martin was a valuable bullpen arm for the Rangers in 2025, posting a 2.98 ERA and nabbing a pair of saves. Normally a reliable reliever, Martin has struggled mightily so far in 2026, posting an unsightly 8.59 ERA in nine appearances and spending some time on the IL. With both Robert Garcia and Carter Baumler currently on the shelf, the Rangers need Martin to regain his form and start providing value in high-leverage situations.
2. MacKenzie Gore
After coming over from the Nationals in exchange for five prospects, MacKenzie Gore hasn't yet found his footing in Texas, stumbling to a 3-4 record and a 4.78 ERA. A highly talented strikeout pitcher who made the all-star team last season, Gore has especially struggled with walks, handing out 24 free passes in 49 innings thus far. If the Rangers make the postseason, they'll need their #3 starter to have things figured out.
1. Corey Seager
The most prominent bat in the Rangers lineup, Corey Seager has had an agonizing season so far, batting .179 in his first 42 games before landing on the IL with a back injury. Needless to say, the Rangers will need their superstar to get back on track if they want any chance to make the playoffs.
