Rangers Swing Trade With Angels
Last night, the Rangers traded 19-year-old infielder Angel Arredondo to the Angels for catcher Logan O'Hoppe and righthanded pitcher Chase Silseth.
With Kyle Higashioka joining Danny Jansen on the IL June 21, O'Hoppe should split time with Elias Diaz behind the plate. Formerly a top prospect, he has been inconsistent in the Majors, but has averaged 18 homers per season since 2023. Silseth should be an instant boost to the Rangers' bullpen, sporting a 2.72 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 39.2 innings this season. The reliever has only allowed three home runs all year.
Arredondo is a young player with potential, but he hasn't yet capitalized on it, batting only .247 in A ball at the time of the deal. He wasn't even a top-30 prospect in the Rangers organization, making this trade a steal for Texas.
With added stability at catcher and another high-leverage arm in their pen, the Rangers hope to ward off the Mariners and Astros and return to the postseason for the first time since 2023.
